A. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.WHAT IS COOP?

YTÜ COOP Model (COOP Cooperative Education), which is implemented within the scope of Occupational Education at Enterprise, is an innovative redefined version of the traditional internship. Often confused with internship, COOP aims to improve the cooperation between the university and the business world. In this context, it should be underlined that the internship in certain programmes is an obligation, whereas COOP is voluntary.

The university introduces the student who wants to do COOP to the employer in the appropriate sector. The employer starts to prepare the qualified student for business life during the COOP training. In addition, according to researches, the preference rate of the university implementing COOP Education increases in the following years. In summary, the aim of COOP is to strengthen the bond between the university and the business world by internalising it more organically.

You can find detailed information about COOP Education Model at http://www.koop.yildiz.edu.tr/.

The execution of the Occupational Training in Enterprise process basically consists of the following stages:

Collecting periodical information from enterprises with COOP Protocol.

Sharing the quota and other COOP information with students and student COOP application process.

Application evaluation and announcement of the results.

Receiving the preferences of the students whose applications are accepted and student-enterprise interviews.

Student-enterprise matching process, announcement of results and enterprise acceptance.

For SSI procedures, students apply to the Faculty of Machinery Internship Office via e-mail with their acceptance documents and then SSI entries are made by the Internship Office.

These processes are described below:

  1. COOP CALENDAR 2024

3. COOP APPLICATION AND EVALUATION

Students who want to be included in YTU COOP Model training are required to make their pre-applications via YTU Career Portal starting from 30.01.2024 at 10:00 and until 01.02.2024 at 17:00. The announcement of the students whose applications are accepted will be made on 02.02.2024.

Students who are entitled to make a preference must make their preferences on the YTU Career Portal between 3-4 February 2024 during working hours.

Businesses can conduct interviews with students who prefer them between 5-7 February 2024. Interviews can be online or face-to-face depending on the businesses.

After the interviews and preferences are completed, the results will be announced on 08.02.2024.

4. ANNOUNCEMENT OF APPLICATION EVALUATION RESULTS

Business placement results will be announced on YTU Career Portal.

Students who have been matched with an enterprise should contact the relevant enterprise responsible without wasting time. It is of great importance for our students to approve the "FORM 1: Practical Training Acceptance Form" after receiving acceptance and upload it to the system in order to complete the SSI procedures completely. A copy of FORM 1: Practical Training Acceptance Form should be submitted to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Internship Office via e-mail together with the other application documents defined below.

5. SUBMISSION OF COOP APPLICATION DOCUMENTS AND SSI PROCEDURES

The students whose names are on the list must contact the COOP Officer of the company where they are placed and send the "FORM 1: Practical Training Acceptance Form" approved by them together with other COOP Application Documents to the Faculty of Machinery Internship Unit by e-mail to mkf.koop.sgk@gmail.com until 13.02.2024. If the necessary documents are not submitted and the specified schedule is not followed, the students in this situation will be deemed to have waived the COOP Education since the SSI procedures cannot be completed. It is compulsory for students to be insured during the period they will receive technical training in the enterprise.

In the link below, there is the COOP SSI application format by e-mail and the documents required for application.  It is the responsibility of the student to submit the application documents in the required format and time.

Note COOP SSI applications will not be accepted by hand.

C. COOP TRAINING PROCESS

COOP education is based on the principle of fulfilment of the defined works and tasks by COOP students under the supervision of the Training Personnel defined by the enterprise, under the responsibility of the enterprise managers, within the working hours of the enterprises 5 days a week, during 14 lesson weeks in the Spring term of each academic year. In this way, it enables students to complete their engineering education practically in the actual working life in enterprises. The issues that students should pay attention to during the COOP training process are summarised below:

  1. COOP training does not start with the receipt of the acceptance form from the enterprises. It starts with the submission of this form to the relevant department and the Faculty Internship Unit and the creation of the SSI entry record. For this reason, students who have received an acceptance form from the enterprises should make sure that their SSI entries are made before starting training in the enterprise.

  2. COOP training takes place with 14 weeks and 5 days a week of uninterrupted practical work in the enterprise.

  3. Students who will participate in COOP are required to create their Spring semester training curriculum in accordance with the above article.

  1. YTU COOP directive, Faculty of Machinery Application Principles and the protocols made with the enterprises must be read and understood and the principles defined here must be followed.

  2. The attendance criterion defined by the organisation in the protocol should be particularly observed.

  3. Particular attention should be paid to the privacy policy of the organisations. Articles related to confidentiality in the protocols should be carefully examined.

  4. Students must enrol in the "Occupational Training in Business" courses defined in their departments before starting occupational training in enterprises.

  5. Occupational Training at Enterprise courses cover the activities to be carried out in enterprises. The student reports the work report describing the activities in the enterprise to the instructor of the courses defined at the university on a weekly or monthly basis. Whether the reports are weekly or monthly depends on the instructor of the courses.

  6. The instructors of the Occupational Training Courses at the Enterprise can follow the activities of the students by visiting the enterprise or through online meetings.

  1. At the end of the 14-week period in the spring semester, all the work done by the students is presented in the first week of the final semester in an environment (face-to-face or online) in the presence of the instructor of the Occupational Education at the Workplace courses and the business training staff.

  2. The percentage weighting for the evaluation of technical training in the enterprise is defined as 40% for the instructor of the courses and 60% for the training staff in the enterprise. The training staff in the enterprises makes an evaluation based on the students' work performance in the enterprises and the presentation at the end of the term. The instructor of the Occupational Training courses in the enterprise makes an evaluation based on the weekly/monthly reports and the presentation at the end of the term.

  3. After the evaluation, the letter grades of the Occupational Education in Business courses are announced on the OBS system.
